In which, Andrew, Tracy, and Dude unpack the recent weapons policy that Baltimore Comic Con posted and quickly amended, as well as DC’s new movie Suicide Squad. Andrew and Dude found very little to enjoy about the movie, while Tracy felt it was a good time–if not a classic to span the ages. Notable quote: “[Captain Boomerang] wasn’t just normal-guy creepy, he was candy-and-windowless-van creepy.”
In which, Dude breaks down the new animated feature film Batman: The Killing Joke. Meanwhile, in another part of town, Andrew and Tracy discuss the original graphic novel by Alan Moore that inspired the film. We talk about book-ending in writing and art for a satisfying novel, as well as briefly discussing the controversy surrounding this book–especially Gail Simone’s take on “women in refrigerators.”
***** SPOILER ALERT *****
This podcast will be discussing plot points of comics and movies which may be considered spoilers. Consider yourselves warned.
In which, Mike Federali joins Andrew and Tracy once again to discuss the world of geekdom and let us in on the latest gossip from Tidewater Comicon. We settle on the best idea for a Guardians of the Galaxy based breakfast cereal, and Mike brilliantly predicts the next placeholder for Wolverine in the Wolverine and the X-men title (which was announced the next day). He also reads everyone’s minds.
In which Andrew and Tracy discuss their favorite origin stories, and what makes a good origin story. Origin stories aren’t limited to comic books, and we’ve got some good ones to talk about. Also, there is some random bantering back and forth. Tracy accidentally spoils Game of Thrones Season 4, and Andrew promises to edit it out. We wrap up by telling Therefore I Geek’s own origin story, in celebration of our first anniversary.
