Baltimore Comic-Con: the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Baltimore-Comic-Con

Once again Therefore I Geek brings you The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. This time we’re coming home from Baltimore Comic-Con.

The Good

There was sooooo much good. I mean, incredible amounts of good. Baltimore is a small, no stress con.  It’s easy to walk across the entire convention floor in only a few minutes and without having to fight through a sea of people to do it. Given that the convention center is right downtown, there are plenty of places to eat, and it isn’t unreasonably difficult to leave the con for an hour and a half for a nice lunch break. I arrived right at ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday and walked right in, but for those who got to the site a little early, the lines were well managed and moved quickly. Continue reading

Guest Blog | Anime Roundup

If you had asked me eight years ago if I would ever be as entrenched in what I know as “geek culture” as I am right now, I would have laughed my head off at you. I had never stepped foot into a comic book shop, save for on Free Comic Book Day. I didn’t play many video games–much less ones that were online. I definitely didn’t watch anime, aside from the one or two series that my college buddies would watch on their laptops in between classes. It’s funny. At age 30, I’ve finally found my place with all of these things. I have a pull box at my local comic book shop (number 42, incidentally. Around the Web September 5, 2014

Most geeks I know are looking forward to the premeire of Gotham in just a few weeks.  Unfortunately, most of the people I know also lead busy lives and might miss an episode or two. With DVRs that’s less of a worry, but is not completely alleviated. I know from experience that I have both forgotten to record shows or the DVR has screwed up and only recorded five minutes. As far as Gotham is concerned, it’s no longer a worry because Netflix has already acquired the rights to the show. In a fairly unprecedented move, Netflix has obtained the rights to a completely untested show (that isn’t a Netflix original), and it will be the international source for video-on-demand services.

It’s worth noting that Amazon did something similar with Under the Dome, though not to the same extent as Netflix. Continue reading
