Therefore I Geek Podcast, Episode 73 Pokémon GO, Frank Cho, and Ghostbusters

The gang discusses some geek topics of note this week, beginning with the Pokémon GO phenomenon, which threatens to take over the world.  After that, there is a conversation about Frank Cho’s sudden departure from DC Comics.  Finally, none of our heroes really enjoyed Ghostbusters for a variety of reasons:  Tracy hates Kate McKinnon, Dude takes issue with beefcake, dumb Thor, and Andrew makes the excellent point that if Ghostbusters were a baseball game, the cast were essentially t-ball players. Therefore I Geek Podcast Episode 63, Captain America: Civil War

In which, Dude and Becky fill in for Andrew & Tracy due to unforeseen circumstances and cover the premiere of Captain America: Civil War.  Dude, in a moment that surprises literally no one, hated the movie, while Becky actually liked it.  They discuss awkward closeups, the implosion of Marvel’s greatest bromance, and wonder why the female superheroes do not get the same treatment as the males.

B Movie Review: Flash Gordon

When I see the name Dino De Laurentiis attached to a movie, I immediately think of goofy science fiction and fantasy films. So obviously, when I saw it appear at the beginning of Flash Gordon I knew I was in for a special kind of treat. Despite its questionable “parentage”, Flash Gordon is definitely a must see film for any fan of B level science fiction films.

To begin, the audience finds itself introduced to our hero, Flash Gordon, quarterback for the New York Jets. Flash quickly finds himself, as well as travel agent Dale Arden and Dr. Zarkov, hurtling into space in a craft of Zarkov’s design, in an attempt to save Earth from Ming the Merciless. Ming has decided to destroy Earth because Zarkov was smart enough to figure out Ming was behind a series of natural disasters. Flash and his companions eventually become prisoners of Ming and shortly thereafter Flash is executed. Or so it would appear. Flash is instead revived by Ming’s daughter and thus begins a series of events that will culminate in Flash leading an open revolt against Ming. Continue reading
