Those of us who are not fans of Digital Rights Management (DRM), will be happy to hear that there has been another victory against it. Comixology has announced that over 4000 comics available on the site have been made DRM free. Comics from twenty publishers are now available with PDF or CBZ files that can be downloaded, stored and used however the reader would like. While Marvel and DC are not among the publishers going DRM free, hopefully they will start to feel the pressure soon and jump on the bandwagon.

I’m not exactly holding my breath, but I think that eventually they won’t have much choice.

Director James Cameron has once again fended off a lawsuit that his record breaking blockbuster Avatar was infringing on copyrights. This particular time the lawsuit was brought by William Roger Dean, an artist who claimed that Cameron stole the feel of Avatar from his art. The case was dismissed when the judge determined that Mr. Dean was unable to substantiate his claim and that it stemmed not from the movie, but other material pertaining to the movie, such as books. The article also points out that this is not the only lawsuit Cameron has had to fight over alleged copyright infringement with regards to Avatar.

Five years later and this was still going on. I’m more than a little surprised it took this long to throw the case out.

To wrap up the week, something that I know nearly everyone will be happy about: Fox has announced a Deadpool movie. Yes, that’s right, the Merc with a Mouth will have his own feature film in 2016. Many people are speculating that this is due in large part to the fan response to a demo tape that leaked several weeks ago. The demo showed Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, shortly after his appearance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. While Reynolds has not officially signed on, he has expressed interest in the idea. The inclusion of Deadpool has also caused a considerable shuffle in Fox’s movie schedule.

I may not be the biggest Deadpool fan, but rest assured, I will take one for the team and go see it so that you all may have an insightful Therefore I Geek review.
