In which, the guys discuss a topic very near and dear to Andrew’s heart: what is it that sums up the existence of Superman. Dude is actually on the east coast for this one and the energy in the room is palpable. The quintessential argument on the table is whether or not Zach Snyder’s Man of Steel, in which Superman breaks Zod’s neck, is an accurate interpretation of who Superman is and should be.
Walk Around in Circles is an appropriate track for this week’s episode, in which, Andrew and Dude discuss Star Wars. With the new Rogue One trailer dropping last week and the blue ray of The Force Awakens available now, that’s the topic on everyone’s mind. They also discuss the expanded universe and what is canon and what is no longer canon, trekking down a side path to discuss favorite expanded universe media and characters. A brief foray into other cool movie topics, including Eddie the Eagle, and how the Coen brothers depict dopey Communism in Hail, Caesar. After Star Wars has been thoroughly discussed, the pair venture into new movies, comics and role playing games that they are excited about.
I’m not usually one to give in to hype. That is not to say it hasn’t happened before, or that sometimes the hype isn’t true, just that I have been making a more conscious effort to make my own judgement on stuff I read and watch. In this case, there has been plenty of hype surrounding Ta-Nehisi Coates starting his comic writing career with Black Panther. I decided to pick up his first issue and see if there was any substance behind all the hype. Continue reading

To say I love comics is probably an understatement. It’s hard to believe I’ve only been reading them for the last nine years. Even in my short time as a comic fan, I’ve noticed that there has been a noticeable, and mostly positive change in the industry when it comes to the diversity of titles. To be clear, when I’m talking about diversity, I’m not talking about diversity among characters and those creating the comics (writers, artists, etc). While there has been some strides in that particular arena, there is certainly room for further improvement, and that’s a topic that deserves its own post. No, what I’m talking about is the fact that there are comics available to fit nearly any possible taste–nearly every genre is represented. We may not be in a comic book renaissance, but this is still a pretty awesome time to be a fan. Therefore, here are some of the best books I have found within various genres. Continue reading
