This past weekend, Avengers: Age of Ultron was released in theaters, and made nearly $450 million over the weekend–a truly impressive number by any standards. The staff of Therefore I Geek obviously contributed to that number, and then sat down and recorded a special edition of the podcast, which will be released later today. Happy Star Wars Day! (Geek Holidays You Should Celebrate)
So it’s THAT day today. Star Wars Day. May the 4th be with you–one of the groan-worthiest puns of all time–has gone from a mere play on words to an internationally celebrated day of geeky merriment. Annually on this date, those bastions of local, geeky fun, comic book stores often have cosplay events, and there are perhaps hundreds of sales on Star Wars related memorabilia, games, apps, and other cool stuff all over the internet and in physical stores. Autism and Geek Culture
Today’s blog post was written by an American Sign Language public school teacher who has taught children on the Autism Spectrum, including Gemma, who is pictured here.
As we reach the end of April, we are also reaching the end of Autism Awareness Month. At the beginning of the month social media was bombarded with inspirational memes, stories, and puzzle pieces, but by the end of the month it is not at the forefront of our minds. I’d like to give Autism Awareness Month one last hurrah because autism is not some scary epidemic sent to turn our children into zombies as punishment for our unnatural modern-day lifestyle.
