Editorial | Bizarre Search Terms that Brought Web Surfers to Therefore I Geek

One cool thing about running a blog—especially a blog that’s been around for a little while—is the opportunity to look at the stuff behind the scenes.  Blog hosts have all manner of statistical breakdowns, including search terms that have brought denizens of the internet to the blog.  Some of the ones that have wound up in the Therefore I Geek search term log are hilarious.

  • First of all, it seems as though many of our readers are obsessed with DC comic characters having sex.  We’ve had two hits from searches of “superman wonder woman sex,” and two others from searches of “batman has sex with wonder woman.”  From one geek to another, I do NOT see Diana Prince ever hooking up with Bruce Wayne.

I did, however, find a piece of fan art in which Batman kisses my favorite super heroine. Enjoy!

  • Those who may not be into a DC mashup (see what I did there?) are just obsessed with sex in general.  Search terms relating to “love story” and “porn” together have netted dozens of views for Therefore I Geek.  This is mostly due to our post “Shelf Porn: a love story,” but it is still amusing.  I also want to know what the guy who typed “porn love story comic” into his browser was actually looking for… or perhaps I don’t!
  • One of my favorite search terms is “movies with meatloaf in them.”  While I realize that this probably refers to the musician and sometime actor known for his role in Rocky Horror Picture Show, in my head I want it to be about someone’s passion for movies with recipes that are primarily comprised of ground beef.

I WILL be nice and inform you that the US national bird is the bald eagle. Good luck with the homework, kid.

  • Somehow, preteens looking for homework answers tend to show up on our blog.  At least, that’s the only explanation I can come up with for some of the terms I’ve come across.  “National bird of USA,” “What is the literary theme of cinnabar the one o’clock fox,” and “what does c.s. lewis mean by peter’s voice sounding pale,” have all popped up.  I do love Cinnabar the One O’clock Fox, but I think I will encourage the homework-doer to read the book for himself.  It is very much worth reading.
  • Some of these search terms are less funny when there is a legitimate context into which to put them.  However, I don’t think there could possibly be a legitimate context for “nude nazi comic pinups.”  Someone searched for this TWICE!!  Weird.  (I wanted to try to put add a picture to this one, but I’m honestly terrified that searching for images with those key words might put me on some list!)
  • Someone else wants to find the “home remedies of dark underfit.”  I don’t know what dark underfit is, but it sounds dangerous, and the searcher should probably have a doctor check it out.
  • “How much money did you spend at comic con,” is another search.  No surprise as to why this term landed its searcher at Therefore I Geek.  Unfortunately for the him, as any convention visitor can attest, the answer to that question is always, “Too much!”
  • I’m not sure why anyone would search for the specific term, “powered by blog comment ‘leave a reply,” but since that is the label for almost every type of comment section, I’m almost positive that search would pull up almost every blog ever created.
  • The hilarious search term “jar jar binks getting elbowed in the face” made me go on a hunt.  Until now, no one would have found such a thing on Therefore I Geek, but I am remedying that immediately.  Behold!  Jar Jar taking an elbow to the face!jarjar_punched-Stormtrooper
  • Last but not least, sometimes it is the most succinct search terms that get you where you want to go.  Somehow, someone was able to find this blog by simply searching, “poop.”

Well there you have it.  Some of the strangest search terms have taken people on a trip through the internet that deposited them on the Therefore I Geek doorstep.  Got a story about how a search term took you somewhere you never expected?  Share it in the comments!

  1. Haha, I’ve had some good ones myself, but nothing as good as Jar Jar getting elbowed in the face!
