I’m not usually one to give in to hype. That is not to say it hasn’t happened before, or that sometimes the hype isn’t true, just that I have been making a more conscious effort to make my own judgement on stuff I read and watch. In this case, there has been plenty of hype surrounding Ta-Nehisi Coates starting his comic writing career with Black Panther. Comic Diversity

To say I love comics is probably an understatement. It’s hard to believe I’ve only been reading them for the last nine years. Even in my short time as a comic fan, I’ve noticed that there has been a noticeable, and mostly positive change in the industry when it comes to the diversity of titles. To be clear, when I’m talking about diversity, I’m not talking about diversity among characters and those creating the comics (writers, artists, etc). While there has been some strides in that particular arena, there is certainly room for further improvement, and that’s a topic that deserves its own post. No, what I’m talking about is the fact that there are comics available to fit nearly any possible taste–nearly every genre is represented. We may not be in a comic book renaissance, but this is still a pretty awesome time to be a fan. Therefore, here are some of the best books I have found within various genres. Continue reading

Therefore I Geek Podcast Episode 58, Daredevil Season 2

In which, Andrew and Tracy discuss Season 2 of Netflix’s Daredevil.  There were a lot of plot threads in season 2 and a lot of antagonists running around.  Tracy loved the character development of Punisher and Karen Page–and apparently cannot pronounce “pep talk” without some practice.  Andrew defends Foggy as a character, but was unimpressed with Elektra; and both of us appreciate the series’ choice to replace Ben Ulrich.

Saturday Review: Batman #50

There are very few comic runs that I have enjoyed quite so much as Scott Snyder’s tenure on Batman. With only one issue remaining, issue 50 really feels like a solid conclusion to an epic adventure that has served as a point of constant stability throughout the years following the launch of the New 52.
